Here at the studio we've learned out to make the most of our studio space and believe any object can be creatively used in a new way! This spring re-invent your space! Using ordinary objects in new creative ways, will make your room or office feel like a studio, too! We gathered some ideas of how to display your Summer Ellis jewelry at home:

How cute is this little bird cage? This is such a fun way to display your jewelry. It's perfect cause it's decorative and practical at the same time.

Here is an idea that we've used for trunk shows for displaying jewelry; Tie together branches and secure them into a flower pot. You can even spray paint the branches white or black or any color.

We love windows and frames! This cute little earring display is made out of wire and an old picture frame. This is something simple and cute that anyone can do.

Perfect for Picnics

The weather is perfect, the sun shinning, and the birds chirping. This time of year makes me come alive! And it's time for picnics. I just love spreading a blanket, soaking up the sign, reading a book, and looking cute with my Summer Ellis jewelry!

Here are my essentials for my spring picnics:

Signature Sparrow necklace in sterling silver.

With matching signature sparrow earrings!

Green tea lemonade with berries. So refreshing!
Recipe:
4 green tea bags
2 c. water
3 c. organic fresh-squeezed lemonade

Brew green tea using 2 tea bags for extra boldness of flavor. Let the green tea chill in the refrigerator. When green tea is chilled add the lemondae and ice. Serve with fresh berries.

I can't leave home without a classic work by Jane Austen.

Valentine's Around the World

From Morocco to Waco, Texas, Summer Ellis is a truly international business. Of course Valentine's Day is coming up really soon and it's tradition here in the US to give away chocolate and roses. But if you're looking for some unique ideas this Valentine's I found some really interesting Valentine's traditions from around the world that you might want to try.

It's a British custom for children to sing special Valentine's Day songs in exchange for gifts such as candy, fruit or money. It would be great to involve your children in your Valentine's traditions. I remember growing up, every year my mom would surprise my sister and I with candy and a toy on Valentine's Day. It's a special memory that I will always have about my mom.

The Danish like to send pressed white flowers called Snowdrops to their friends on Valentine's Day. I used to love giving Valentine's to my friends at school. I just think it's great to remind your friends how much you care for them and appreciate their friendship. Friends are truly a gift that should always be treasured.

In Japan chocolate is the most popular gift to give to your special someone on Valentine's Day. But it's believed that store-bought chocolate is not a gift of true love so they give away homemade chocolate instead. Homemade gifts are always the best gifts to receive and the most fun to give.

In Taiwan the number of roses you give to someone means different things. One rose means "an only love", eleven roses means "a favorite", ninety-nine roses means "forever", and onehundred eight roses means "marry me". I think this tradition is so much fun it's almost like a guessing game of sorts. Wonder if anyone I know is planning on giving their date onehundred eight roses this Valentine's.

And of course, if you're looking for a special gift he to give this Valentine's Day, Summer Ellis has the perfect thing.

It's 2011 and we're so excited and envisioned for the new year! We've had an amazing 2010, and are ready for what is to come in 2001.

Carolynn and I came back to the studio after the holiday break. We had so much to catch up on! We shared a Mexican vanilla cupcake from a local bakery and brewed some coffee in our studio. We shared stories about the holidays with our families, the New Year celebrations, and celebrated the promises for what is ahead.

We're dreaming big at the studio, and look forward to an amazing year as the Summer Ellis team!

Christmas on 5th Street

Last week we had an event on Baylor Campus at the Christmas on 5th Street celebration. We had such a blast getting to interact with Baylor students and faculty sharing in the Christmas spirit. We saw some familiar faces and met many new friends throughout the evening. It was so much fun getting to do what we love, helping people pick out Christmas gifts or just something special for themselves. By far our most popular piece that night were these blossom earrings:

Girls would go straight to these earrings, start gushing about them saying, “I’m obsessed with these!” and that they just HAD to have a pair. The earrings were practically flying off our table! We ended up with only a handful of them in stock by the end of the night.

Carolyn designed such a beautiful display for our Summer Ellis table, people kept complimenting it all night.

Everyone just loved the cute branches she spray painted white to hang our necklaces on. And the cotton wreath and vintage lamp that Laura picked out were the perfect compliment for the jewelry.

All in all, the evening was a wonderful success. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

Behind the scenes with the Summer Ellis team.

We have such a fantastic team of people that work behind the scenes. We work along side Summer Ellis to design, create, and sell incredibly unique jewelry. Everyone on our team is so creative, flexible, and enthusiastic. We all have our different roles on the team whether it be crafting the jewelry or marketing it to new stores across the country.
I have to say, I love our team!

Here’s a little interview with all of us:

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Summer: Play with my daughter!

Charis: Any of these four R's: Run, Rock Climb, Ride Horses, & Read a Good Book. (All with the hubby, Kyle, of course.)

Carolynn: anything creative. being outside. spending time with friends. a good cup of coffee. worship music. painting.

Laura: I'm in a new phase of re-arranging, re-decorating, re-styling everything. I collect ideas from blogs and websites and try to take time to be creative.

Stefany: I love to go see movies.

Cheridan: I like to climb buildings and practice my ninja kicks.

Describe your personal style.

Summer: Artsy, classic and ALWAYS comfortable. You'll never see me in heels! Ha.

Charis: I guess it's sort of an eclectic mix of Laid-back Bohemian and a little bit Prissy at the same time.

Carolynn: unique. semi-simple and elegant with twists of artsy mis-matched chaos. unpredictable.

Laura: My style even though it's harder to describe with word and easier to express with clothes is funky world market meets Audry Hepburn.

Stefany: Some days I wanna be a total rock star and some days I want to be girly. And some days I mix the two.

Cheridan: Let’s just put is this way, I always wear my heels to HEB.

Name one goal you want to accomplish in the next 10 years.

Summer: I want to write a cook book and a children's book.

Charis: Summit Mount Kilimanjaro.

Carolynn: Love Jesus more each day. See the church change the world.

Laura: Make a perfect yellow cake and frosting. And learn Arabic.

Stefany: I want to have a successful career that takes me all over the world.

Cheridan: Marry an astronaut so my honeymoon can be… on the moon.

What is your favorite thing about working for Summer Ellis?

Summer: I've wanted to own my own business since I was 10.

Charis: Beauty is inspiring. It really is. And Summer's kind of beauty (her jewelry) makes you happy just to be a girl. Plus, it's rewarding to work for a friend that I admire so much.

Carolynn: LOVE the vision, the people, the jewelry, the environment and the beauty.

Laura: I truly get to learn so much about business creativity, style, fashion, and all done with impossible grace that's modeled for us by Summer.

Stefany: I love working together with the team as we create and discover style and business. It's a learning process. It's exciting.

Cheridan: Getting to watch my adorable niece, Hazel.

What is your favorite piece of Summer Ellis Jewelry?

Summer: The white kashi flutter earrings from the ready-to-wear collection.

Charis: My first piece of Summer Ellis jewelry is still my favorite: A pair of black onyx earrings with gold overlay that I bought for a ball. So elegant. :)

Carolynn: the Winter bud earrings from the Ready to Wear line.

Laura: I love the citrine earrings with gold hoops from the Ready to Wear line. I think I wear them every other day! They are so beautiful.

The cold weather this week has us in the spirit of fall here at the studio! We're all looking forward to warm and cozy evenings by the fire with some hot chocolate. Like everyone else, I'm sure.

Fall is the time when we all have to reach into the backs of our closets and pull out our sweaters and jackets to layer and keep us warm. All the wonderful fall clothing reminds me of just how beautiful the fall season can be.

The Summer Ellis aesthetic is inspired by the lovely colors of the fall. like the rich jewel tones used in thes in these earrings, the deep colours of onyx smokey and pale blue quartz combined with 14 karat gold evoke the feeling of fall in these beautiful swooping chain earrings.

Unless you're talking about Hitchcock's "The Birds", feathered creatures are generally symbolic of beauty, freedom, and simplicity.
